ET HELT NYT LIV: DISNEY'S ALADDIN IN DENMARK!!

UN MUNDO IDEAL... EN DANÉS

[THIS POST CAN ALSO BE FOUND IN ENGLISH, RIGHT AFTER THE SPANISH TEXT]

A WHOLE NEW WORLD... IN A WHOLE NEW LANGUAGE

I know from time to time this blog seems to center around one topic (or musical), it happened with Les Mis, and now it's happening with Aladdin. Around february we heard the news that Mary Poppins was closing on Broadway... to *drum roll* allow some maintenance in the theatre before a new host claims it: Aladdin! Finally on broadway!!  Then, a few weeks ago, a production of Aladin (not the disney movie, but the one from Tales from the Arabian Nights) was announced to be staged here in Spain. And now when I was looking for musicals in Denmark I found they were staging a production of Disney's Aladdin in the very Opera of Copenhaguen.

This production premiered successfully last october and has already sold over 25.000 tickets for this summer. Also, since there will be a bigger stage than the one they had they'll also have bigger scenography and a high definition screen twice as big as the previous one. Another of the perks of staging this musical at the opera is that they will make use of its subtitling system... which seems a pretty rad idea to me since i can't speak a word of danish!

What they will be keeping is the same cast: Johannes Nymark as Aladdin, Maria Lucia Helberg Rosenberg as Jasmin and the highly praised young star Pelle Emil Hebsgaard as Genie... leading a cast of over 30 actors.

Besides all this, my head is still spinning from the fact that it seems that students who want to go to the Royal Theatre can enjoy a 50% discount in their tickets as according to them...

The only thing I don't quite understand is the fact that even though they're having all these awesome productions (they had Wicked, Love Never Dies, Les Mis, Singin' In The Rain, Avenue Q, Shrek) there isn't a single website about musicals... or at least they are so freaking well hidden that they're impossible to find.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Disney Theatrical would never allow any production wearing their name to be anything but spectacular so... although it may have nothing to do with the upcoming broadway production, i'm definitely looking forward to hearing all those Menken's songs in a completely different language!!!

Here's a small bite of what we will see, and I must thank Pelle Emil Hebsgaard for adding the subtitles so that we could understand what they were saying at the beginning!

M.
