Estrenamos esta sección con uno de mis libros favoritos: ACTING UP, de Melissa Nathan (también publicado como PRIDE, PREJUDICE AND JASMIN FIELD).

No sé si habré comentado ya alguna vez por aquí que Orgullo y Prejuicio (Pride & Prejudice), de Jane Austen, es uno de mis libros favoritos, de forma que cualquier versión por rara que sea pasa por mis manos sea en el formato que sea. Este libro acabó en mi poder por casualidad y me enamoró profundamente... haciendo que hasta esta fecha lo haya releído muchísimas veces. Desafortunadamente, lo he buscado por todas partes en castellano sin ningún éxito.  =(

Ahora lo que os estaréis preguntando, ¿qué tiene de especial este libro?

El libro comienza con Jasmin Field, una joven periodista que va a realizar una audición para "Orgullo Y Prejuicio, La Obra" un evento benéfico con actores y gente de la calle dirigido por el famoso Harry Noble, que tras su paso por Hollywood (Oscar incluido) vuelve a Inglaterra. Tal como Jasmin esperaba, el Sr. Noble es un estirado y un prepotente... ¿os suena de algo el argumento?

Efectivamente.

Jasmin es elegida como Lizzy Bennet, pese a ser de los pocos sin experiencia que se presenta a la audición y, a las pocas páginas empezamos a ver como la vida real imita a la historia que están ensayando.

Pese a ser una historia ya conocida, este libro es un caramelito, escrito con mucho gusto y un estilo ligero y divertido que más de una vez os hará soltar una carcajada en voz alta. Dosis de romance, de engaño, de escándalo, de humor y de teatro, en un mismo libro.

We're launching this new part of the blog with one of my favourite books: ACTING UP, by Melissa Nathan (also published as PRIDE, PREJUDICE AND JASMIN FIELD).

I don't know if I've already mentioned here my deep love for Jane Austen's PRIDE & PREJUDICE so deep that anything remotely related to that title ends up in my hands. I happened to find this book by chance, attracted by its colourful cover and ended up absolutely in love with the story.

Now what you will be wondering, what's so special about this book?

The book starts with Jasmin Field, a young journalist on her way to audition for a role in "Pride And Prejudice, A Play", a charity event with actors as well as unknown people directed by the famous Harry Noble, who comes back to England after succeeding in Hollywood, Oscar included. Of course, Mr. Noble is as uptight and arrogant as she had imagined... Sounds familiar, right??

Indeed.

Jasmin gets cast as Lizzy Bennet, even though she's one of the very few with no acting experience. Soon we start to see how life starts mimicking the story they're rehearsing.

Although it's a well known story, this book is a little jewel, written with taste and with a light and fun style which will make you laugh out loud more than once. A healthy dose of romance, deception, scandal, humour and theatre... all in one book.
